Stuff I Use
Last updated: 2025-01-31Hopefully this page will shrink over time, as I am constantly pairing down in an attempt at minimalism.
Everyday Carry
- iPhone 15 Pro
- Apple Watch Ultra 2*
Computer
- MacBook Pro M2 Max*
- Running Asahi with NixOS for Apple Silicon which I'm loving
- I absolutely love the Apple silicon, which is why I bought this ridiculously expensive machine. It runs cool and quiet 99.9% of the time, which is something you can't fully appreciate until you use it. The battery life is also insane. But if I had to buy a new computer today, I would buy a Framework or a used ThinkPad and install Linux on it.
- CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt Dock*
- Another product that is excellent, but too expensive and not necessary (for my use case, at least). I have it mounted under my desk and it makes taking my laptop with me easy, as I only need to unplug one cable to disconnect from my setup.
- BenQ EW2780U 4K Monitor
- Logitech MX Vertical mouse*
- After Logitech added obnoxious AI crap to their software this year, forcing me to install SteerMouse, I wouldn't buy anything from them again. I would probably buy a mouse from Keychron if I had to get a new one today.
- Logitech Keyboard*
- Now that I've installed linux on my Mac and no longer use my Apple Magic Keyboard due to poor button configuration in Linux, I will be going to the local thrift store to find a cheap USB keyboard (old-school with a num pad) to use.
Desk
- Flexispot standing desk
- Brown leather office chair
- Hillport Dual Monitor Arm
- Anker magnetic cable holder
Server
- Dell XPS 15 9500
- My old laptop.
- Running NixOS.
- NVMe SATA adapter with 3 8TB SSDs and a 14TB HDD for backups
- Anker 2.5 Gbps USB-C to Ethernet adapter
Photo/Video
- Olympus EM-1 Mark III
- Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm F2.8 Pro lens
- Olympus M.Zuiko 300mm F4.0 Pro lens
- An old tripod that barely remains steady
- Neewer LED light
- Rode Wireless GO II microphones
- 2x Rode Lavalier GO
Other
- Acer Aspire V3-371
- A hand-me-down from my wife that I use for Linux. Right now it has Alpine installed.
- Brother HL-L2350DW printer
Software
- Self-hosted
Stuff I Notably Do Not Use
- Bluetooth
- Okay, this is actually a lie, I do still use bluetooth headphones and peripherals, but I am slowly discarding them from my life in favor of simpler, cheaper, longer-lasting alternatives
*Most of my life I've been a minimalist. For some time, that got away from me and I turned into a consumer. Thankfully, I've rekindled a desire for the simple life within myself, so anything marked with a star I, most likely, would not buy again.
